Prof Michael Chapman Fertility Specialist

Following 15 years abroad, as Professor, he returned to Australia to join the University of New South Wales and St George Public Hospital, His work has remained strongly focused on improving reproductive healthcare standards, patient access, and specialist training across the field.

Professor Chapman has held a number of influential leadership positions throughout his career, including Chair of the IVF Directors Group, and later asPresident of the Fertility Society of Australia. In these roles, he worked closely with the Federal Government to help maintain IVF treatment as a protected doctor–patient medical decision. 

He has  played a key role in the development and operation of IVF programs across the world - London, Naples, Jeddah, and Sydney.

In addition to regularly presenting at national and international conferences, Professor Chapman has authored more than 200 scientific publications and book chapters.

His clinical interests include IVF, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) now renamed PMOS, recurrent miscarriage, and menstrual disorders. He has served in several senior leadership and advisory roles across women’s health and reproductive medicine organisations throughout Australia.

Introducing

Professor Michael Chapman AM is a highly regarded fertility specialist and medical academic whose career has spanned clinical practice, research, education, and reproductive health advocacy. Over decades in the field, he has contributed to more than 3,500 pregnancies and remains recognised for his longstanding contribution to fertility medicine in Australia and internationally.

Originally graduating from the University of Adelaide, Professor Chapman trained in obstetrics and gynaecology. He moved to the United Kingdom, where he specialised in infertility, hormonal disorders, and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). During this time, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of London before being appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Guy’s Hospital.
